HYROX Socks for Women: How to Find the Right Fit

31 Oct 2026 ·By Sam Carter ·8 min read

If you've typed HYROX socks women into Google, you're probably not after a lecture. You want to know what to wear on your feet for eight 1km runs and eight stations without a sock slipping, bunching or rubbing a blister by the sled pull. Good news: it's not complicated. The single biggest thing most women get wrong isn't the brand or the colour, it's the size. This guide covers how HYROX socks for women should fit, which height to go for, how to keep blisters away and the HEXXEE pairs we'd pick for race day.

Want to skip ahead? Our HYROX socks collection has every pair we rate for hybrid training and racing, and the pairs we pick below all come in women's sizes.

Do women need different HYROX socks?

Honest answer: not really a different sock, but very often a different size. The demands of a HYROX race are the same whichever division you're in. You run, you push, you pull, you lunge, you jump and you squat, and your feet take a beating the whole time. What changes is the foot inside the shoe.

Plenty of "unisex" sports socks are really sized for bigger feet. On a smaller foot that means spare fabric at the toe, a heel that sits halfway up your Achilles and a cuff that slowly slides down. Spare fabric is the enemy in HYROX. It folds, it creases and it rubs, and over a full race, that's exactly where blisters come from.

That's why the HEXXEE HYROX socks in this guide are sold in two women's sizes as well as two men's sizes:

  • Womens: 4-7 UK / 6-9 US
  • Womens: 7.5-10 UK / 9.5-12 US
  • Mens: 6-8.5 UK / 6-8.5 US
  • Mens: 9-11.5 UK / 9-12 US

Pick the size that matches your shoe size rather than grabbing whatever's left. If you're between sizes, think about what you'll wear the socks with: race shoes are often a snug fit, so a sock that sits neatly without any extra bulk tends to feel better than one that's baggy.

What to look for in HYROX socks for women

Whatever you buy, these are the boxes worth ticking.

1. A snug fit that stays put

You'll stop and start again and again in a race. Every transition is a chance for a loose sock to shift. You want something that holds your foot rather than floating around it. HEXXEE socks are designed with "a snug, secure fit designed specifically to help 'hug' your foot."

2. Cushioning where you land

The runs, the burpee broad jumps and the wall balls all send impact through the heel and forefoot. Our socks have "built-in arch support with plush cloud-like cushioning at the ankle and forefoot to help absorb impact, thus preventing impact bruising."

3. Breathability

HYROX venues get hot, and hot feet are sweaty feet. Sweaty feet slide around more, and sliding is what turns friction into blisters. We've put everything we know about preventing blisters in CrossFit and HYROX into one guide. Look for a performance blend rather than thick cotton. HEXXEE socks feature "enhanced airflow across the top of the foot" that "helps allow the foot to breathe." The crew designs in this guide are 70% Dry fit Polyester, 20% Cotton and 10% Elastane.

4. Anti-blister construction

Our socks are "made with anti-abrasion fibres deep within the sock. Trialled and tested for long-distance running where rubbing is most common." With 8km of running in a HYROX race, that's exactly the kind of testing you want.

5. Comfort that lasts to the finish

A sock that feels lovely in the warm-up and awful by the lunges isn't doing its job. HEXXEE socks "are designed with four-yarn terry loops to create a supremely soft and supportive athletic sock."

Crew, low cut or ankle: which height is best for HYROX?

This is the question we get asked most, and there's no single right answer. Here's how we'd think about it:

  • Crew height is our go-to for HYROX. It gives coverage above the shoe, so the sled rope and the floor are less likely to scrape your lower legs, and there's more sock to keep everything in place. It's also where the fun designs really show off. Browse our crew socks.
  • Low cut crew is a happy medium if you like a shorter look but still want some protection above the shoe. See our low cut crew socks.
  • Ankle socks suit women who run hot or just hate anything on their shins. If you go this short, make sure the heel tab sits high enough that your shoe can't rub. Our ankle socks are here.

Whatever height you choose, avoid no-show socks for racing. They're the most likely to slide down under your heel, and fixing a sock mid-race costs you time you'd rather spend on the wall balls.

If you want to go deeper on the height debate, we've covered it in The Great Debate: How High Should Your Gym Socks Be?

How to avoid blisters in a HYROX race

Socks are only part of the story. A few simple habits make a big difference:

  1. Never debut anything on race day. Wear your race socks and race shoes together in at least a few long training sessions first, ideally ones that mix running with sleds, lunges and burpees.
  2. Get the size right. We know, we keep saying it. A sock that fits properly is the easiest blister prevention there is.
  3. Smooth everything out before the start. Pull your socks up, check there are no creases at the toes or heel, and tie your laces so your foot doesn't slide forward on the runs.
  4. Keep your feet dry beforehand. Don't stand around in wet trainers before your wave. If it's raining on the way to the venue, bring a spare pair of socks to change into.
  5. Know your hotspots. If you always get a blister in the same place in training, deal with it before race day rather than hoping it won't happen this time.

Racing doubles or relay? Match your socks

Doubles and relays are a huge part of the HYROX community, and matching socks with your partner or team is one of the easiest ways to look the part. Because the designs in this guide come in women's and men's sizes, mixed pairs can wear the same design and both get a proper fit. Pick a colourway of Girl Power each, or go full chaos with a different design per person. We won't judge.

How to look after your HYROX socks

Good socks last longer when you treat them well. According to our care instructions, "a single pair of HEXXEE socks have the ability to last for two years or longer when looked after and washed correctly." We recommend "a machine wash in cold water no warmer than 30 degrees, or most preferred is a hand-wash in cold water to achieve the best results," and hang drying them. Don't bleach or boil them.

FAQ: HYROX socks for women

What socks should women wear for HYROX?

A snug, breathable, cushioned sport sock in the right size, at crew, low cut crew or ankle height. Avoid no-show socks and thick cotton socks, and never race in a pair you haven't trained in.

Are HEXXEE HYROX socks available in women's sizes?

Yes. All the pairs featured in this guide are available in Womens: 4-7 UK / 6-9 US and Womens: 7.5-10 UK / 9.5-12 US, as well as two men's sizes.

Should I wear crew or ankle socks for HYROX?

Most people prefer crew height for the extra coverage above the shoe, especially on the sled pull. Ankle socks are fine if they stay put and your shoe doesn't rub your heel. Try both in training and race in whichever you forget you're wearing.

Do I need grip socks for HYROX?

You race HYROX in trainers, so the grip that matters most is between your shoe and the floor. What your socks need to do is stop your foot moving around inside your shoe. A snug fit and arch support do that job. Our article on when grip socks help and when they don't goes into more detail.

How do I stop my socks slipping down during HYROX?

Choose the right size first. A sock that's too big for your foot is the most common reason a cuff slides down. Then make sure it's pulled up and smooth before the start, and avoid no-show styles.
