Padel Socks: How to Choose the Best Pair for the Court

30 Oct 2026 ·By Sam Carter ·8 min read

Padel has gone from "what's that?" to "are you free Thursday?" in about five minutes, and if you've played more than a couple of matches you'll know it asks a lot of your feet. Short sprints to the glass, sudden stops, lunges into the corner and endless side-to-side shuffling all hammer the same spots. That's why padel socks are worth a bit more thought than whatever pair was on top of the drawer. This guide covers what to look for, which height to choose, how to keep blisters away on court, and the HEXXEE pairs we'd pick for match day.

Why padel is tough on your feet

Padel looks friendly. It's doubles, the court is small and the rallies are long and fun. But that small court is exactly what makes it hard work for your feet. You're rarely running in a straight line. Instead you're:

  • Changing direction constantly: split step, shuffle, push off, recover, repeat.
  • Stopping hard: braking before the glass or the net puts a lot of pressure on the front of the foot.
  • Lunging low: digging out a ball in the corner loads your forefoot and ankle.
  • Playing for a long time: rallies go on, matches go to three sets, and a social game can easily fill a 90-minute court booking.

All of that movement means friction and impact. If your sock slides around inside your shoe, bunches under your toes or slowly slips down into your heel, you'll feel it by the second set. A good pair of padel socks won't turn you into a pro, but a bad pair can definitely make you miserable.

What to look for in padel socks

Whatever brand you go for, these are the boxes worth ticking:

1. Cushioning where you land and push off

The ankle and forefoot take the most punishment on a padel court, so that's where padding earns its keep. Our padel socks feature "built-in arch support with plush cushioning at the ankle and forefoot" which "helps absorb the repeated impact from explosive starts, lunges and rapid lateral movement during padel matches."

2. A secure fit that doesn't move

Fast footwork needs a sock that stays exactly where you put it. Loose fabric is the enemy: it slides, it folds and it rubs. Look for a snug, locked-in fit through the arch and around the ankle. On our padel socks, "the secure performance fit hugs the foot to provide stability during quick directional changes."

3. Breathability

Hot feet are sweaty feet, and sweaty feet slide around more and blister more easily. That matters on a summer evening under the lights or in a busy indoor club. HEXXEE padel socks have "enhanced airflow across the top of the foot" that "helps keep feet cool during long rallies."

4. Anti-blister construction

Friction is what causes most blisters, so the less your sock rubs, the better. Ours are "made with anti-abrasion fibres woven deep within the sock to minimise friction." In the words of the product description: "Originally tested in long-distance running environments where rubbing is most common — ideal for intense padel matches and extended court sessions."

5. Comfort that lasts the whole match

Soft socks feel great in the first game. You want ones that still feel great in the last. Our padel socks are "crafted with a deluxe performance blend and four-yarn terry loops to deliver exceptional softness, cushioning and support from warm-up to match point." The material is 70% Dry fit Polyester, 20% Cotton and 10% Elastane.

Crew or ankle padel socks: which height is best?

This is mostly personal preference, but here's how we'd think about it:

  • Crew height gives more coverage above the shoe. Lots of players like the locked-in feel and the extra cushioning around the ankle, and it's the classic court look. It's also where the fun designs really get to shine.
  • Low cut crew sits a little lower for a lighter feel while still covering the back of the ankle where shoes tend to rub.
  • Ankle socks are the minimalist option. If you like your legs free and you play a lot in warm weather, they're a popular choice.

One honest tip: whatever height you choose, make sure the sock comes up higher than the back of your shoe. A sock that disappears below the heel tab is asking for a rub. If you want to go deeper on sock length, our post on how high your gym socks should be covers the pros and cons of each.

How to avoid blisters on the padel court

Socks are one part of the puzzle. A few other habits make a big difference:

  • Get your shoe size right. Too big and your foot slides; too small and your toes take a beating every time you brake. Try shoes on with the socks you'll actually play in.
  • Lace up properly. A heel that lifts with every step is a blister waiting to happen. Snug laces through the midfoot help keep your heel locked in.
  • Keep your feet dry. Breathable socks help. If you sweat a lot, take a spare pair in your bag and change between matches.
  • Retire tired socks. Once a pair has lost its shape or cushioning, it won't hold your foot the way it used to.
  • Don't ignore hot spots. If something starts to rub, sort it out between games before it turns into a blister that ruins your week.

There's plenty more in the padel socks collection, from tie dye and marble designs to plain 3-packs for players who want a weekly rotation.

Can you wear padel socks for other sports?

Absolutely. The things that make a good padel sock (cushioning, a secure fit and anti-blister construction) are the same things that matter in the gym, on a run or on a tennis court. There's no rule that says they have to stay on court. If you're building a sock drawer that covers everything you do, our guide to the best sports socks breaks down what works for the gym, running, grip work and the court.

How to look after your padel socks

Court dust, sand and sweat all end up in your socks, so wash them after every session. Our care advice is straightforward: "Machine wash in cold water (maximum 30°C), although hand washing in cold water is recommended for the best results." HEXXEE socks "can be pre-treated with fabric softener and stain remover but must not be bleached or boiled, as this will damage the fibres", and for best results we recommend hang drying them. Treat them well and "a single pair of HEXXEE socks can last two years or longer when properly cared for."

Padel socks FAQ

Do you need special socks for padel?

You don't strictly need them, but socks designed for lateral movement make a real difference. Look for cushioning at the ankle and forefoot, a secure fit and anti-blister construction, especially if you play long matches.

What length socks are best for padel?

Crew and low cut crew socks are a common choice because they give more coverage and cushioning around the ankle. Ankle socks suit players who prefer a minimalist feel. Just make sure the sock sits above the back of your shoe.

How do I stop getting blisters playing padel?

Wear well-fitting shoes, lace them so your heel doesn't lift, choose breathable socks built to minimise friction and change into a dry pair if your feet get sweaty. Deal with hot spots early.

Can I wear running or gym socks for padel?

Yes, a good cushioned sports sock will do the job. Padel-specific socks are built with the court in mind, with extra focus on the impact and fast direction changes padel throws at you.

Are padel socks the same as tennis socks?

They're very similar. Both sports involve lots of lateral movement, so the same features (cushioning, a secure fit and breathability) matter in both.

Whether you're a weekly social player or chasing the club ladder, the right padel socks keep you comfortable, keep blisters away and let you focus on the next point. Find your next pair in the HEXXEE padel socks collection and we'll see you on court.
